October 11th
This afternoon I met with Senators Jelinek and Switalski to discuss their eleven bill package (SB' 804 ....) to cut assessment costs. In the next three weeks the legislature still has to make significant cuts to meet their funding goals for the 07-08 fiscal year. Funding cuts around the MME and K-12 social studies assessments MAY be under consideration.
I've attached the talking points that we made during our meeting. I also spent time discussing that with the "lower level" cuts there was ample funds to pick up the third WorkKeys assessment to allow students eligibility to the work ready certification offered thru WorkKeys. This sparked interest.
I believe I was hitting doubles, triples, and one or two home runs. Time will tell.
Please, this is very early in a very complicated process. So, please, don't make any judgements or take any actions to change things in your school based upon our recommendations.
