Collaboration Between the Principal and District Management

Tagged:  •    •    •

Most administrators began their careers as teachers. When they accepted a job offer to become an administrator, they perceived it as a promotion. They felt they were assuming more responsibility, and would accordingly receive greater compensation. Yet in reality, this has not happened in most school districts. If one compares hourly rates of pay, teachers are paid at a much higher rate than most administrators. Administrators and administrative associations must work together with school boards to address the difficult bargaining issue facing school districts, but the contributions made by administrators should be recognized.

MASSP makes a special publication available to members- at no charge. It is THE principal’s guide for their contract negotiation process. Based upon the bargaining concept of comparability, this guide gives you insight as to what to compare, how to gather information, and models to consider for your contract.
