Why am I seeking this particular MASSP Office?

~ I am seeking this particular office to have the opportunity to represent and serve the school administration community at a higher level. The MASSP is a resource that serves and supports its members in many capacities and I look forward to being able to be a part of this vehicle of information and assistance. This professional opportunity is a way to serve education, as we continue to move through these challenging and changing educational and economic times.

What contributions can I make to the MASSP?

~ Having been an assistant principal for only 1 ½ years, I bring to the MASSP not only a perspective fresh from the world of teaching, but current, quality skills and experience in administration. In my thirteen years of teaching, I am fortunate to have experience in both urban and in rural settings, along with high school, middle school, and alternative education buildings. I have also been hold many positions of leadership from which to draw upon. I have been a professional development chair, part of curriculum council, planner/facilitator of many in-services, develop and implement a myriad of student programs, advisor of the high school student council, and enjoy coaching the varsity dance team. These diverse and rich experiences will allow me to bring a variety of perspectives and viewpoints to the commission, by which to serve the members of MASSP.

What, in particular, qualifies me for this position?

~ My varied and extensive experiences as a teacher, facilitator, and coach, along with my newer role as an administrator, will allow me to have the perspective of the classroom, along with the leadership from the main office. This combined with an abundance of energy, the ability to look forward, and the practice of reflection, will allow me to consider what the membership of the MASSP needs.

~ Bachelors degrees in Zoology and Studio Art from Michigan State University
~ Teacher Certification through the Post-Baccalaureate program at Michigan State University
~ Masters Degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University

Professional Experience

~ 5 years of service in Flint Community Schools- Science teacher at Accelerated Academics Academy (an alternative Middle School) and Holmes Middle School
~ 10 years of service in Perry Public Schools- Science teacher at the middle and high schools, currently serving as the middle school assistant principal
