Dave Holmes, 2008 Candidate for Middle Level Commission Secretary
Statement:
I am seeking this position because I strongly support the vision of MASSP and its promotion of leadership at the building level, as well as, the involvement of administrators as active players in the Advocacy, Education, Guidance, and Leadership of our students. I believe that I can offer significant input to the Middle Level component of the organization and assist in the transition processes that are taking place from the Middle to High Schools, especially in light of the Michigan Merit Curriculum and how it may impact that transition.
Biography:
I have held my current position of Principal at Kingsford Middle School since the fall of 2006. Prior to that I was the Assistant Principal at Kingsford Middle School for 3 years - 2003-2006.
Experience:
I have been involved in education for the past 11 years. I started my career at Luther L. Wright High School as a Social Studies teacher and coach in 1997 in Ironwood Michigan. In 1999 I moved to Kingsford and worked at Kingsford High School as a Social Studies teacher and a coach. In 2003 I moved to Kingsford Middle School as the Assistant Principal. In 2006 I was promoted to Principal at Kingsford Middle School and currently remain in that position.
Related Experience:
As a professional I am continually working to develop my own leadership skills with regard to impacting our profession and the students that we serve. I have participated in Pathways to Leadership training provided by Pathways to Leadership Inc. This training is a 24 week program to develop healthy viable organizations with effective team building and leadership approaches. The training is a valuable tool used by many Fortune One Hundred and Fortune Five Hundred companies including Ford Motor Company. I have also participated in many local leadership opportunities through our local Intermediate School District and have been our local district liaison for the Downy 3 Minute Walk-Through process.
