Christina Eyre, 2008 Candidate for Assistant Principal Commission Secretary

➢ Statement: Why are you seeking this particular MASSP Office?
I am firm believer in being an active member of organizations that can help professionals improve. MASSP was an integral organization to me as a new teacher, student council advisor, and now as new administrator.
I have always looked for three things in a professional organization: relevant and practical professional development, networking, and opportunities to contribute. MASSP easily provides all three for all of their members.
For these reasons, I would like to extend my professional skills, assist others in doing the same, and give back to the organization that has already served me so well.
➢ What contributions can you make to MASSP?
I believe that the experiences I have had as an educator allow me to offer some expertise to other administrators, as well as those aspiring to become administrators.
Throughout my tenure as an educator, the opportunities I have had to provide professional development to various educators will enable me to assist MASSP in planning valuable trainings for our members.
Although, the thing I enjoy the most about my profession is the opportunity and ability to assist teachers in becoming a better educators in their classrooms. I look forward at having the chance to help other administrators do the same. I believe being a strong, instructional leader is the most important job for any administrator.
➢ What, in particular, qualifies you for this position?
I believe that the fourteen years I have served in education, as well as the variety of job responsibilities qualify me to serve as an AP Commissioner.
Prior to my current administrative position, I have taught a variety of Language Arts courses grades seventh through eleventh grades, Yearbook, Psychology/Sociology. In addition to my classroom experiences, I served Olivet Community Schools for six years as the Career Preparation Coordinator, and At-Risk Coordinator.
As the Assistant Principal at Harper Creek Middle School, in addition to discipline, I supervise the special education programming for grades 5-8, oversee our Child Study process (pre-referral interventions), and provide assistance for teachers who need added support in their classrooms.
In addition to my education-related experiences, the skills I have gained serving as an event chairperson, planning various activities from meals, conferences, etc. for other organizations will also help me to contribute to MASSP and its members.
